about

This is the first track on the Snake Oil ep.

Based on an old masonic poem

lyrics

BUILD & DESTROY

I watched them tearing a building down
A gang of men in a busy town
A heave ho and a mighty yell
They swung the ball and the four walls fell

I asked the foreman, are these men skilled?
The kind you get if you got to build
He gave a laugh he said not indeed
Common labor is all I need, a common breed

I can easily wreck in a day or two
What other men have taken years to do
I can turn my back on a broken toy
Some men they build and some destroy

I was thinking as I went my way,
Which of these roles have I tried to play?
Am I a builder that works with care
Measures life by rule and square

Am I following a well made plan
Simply doing the best I can?
Or am I a wrecker who walks this town
Content with tearing the buildings down, to the ground

I can easily wreck in a day or two
What other men have taken years to do
I can turn my back on a broken toy
Some men they build and some destroy
